Viacheslav Kuznetsov and Alexey Tsatevich of Team Katusha finished in the Top-10 of the second stage of the Belgian stage race Tour de Wallonie (2.HC). The stage of 171.4 km from Beaufays to Bassenge ended in a bunch sprint, won by Danny van Poppel from Trek Factory Racing. He outsprinted Matti Breschel from Tinkoff-Saxo and Marcus Burghardt from BMC. Kuznetsov finished 6th, while Tsatevich was 7th.
"Today we did not plan to go in a breakaway because the stage course was quite flat. The main thing was to support Sergey Lagutin, who will try to fight for the overall classification, as well as to help Viacheslav Kuznetsov in the bunch sprint. In the finale, the team worked best for Viacheslav in the sprint and he finished 6th. Tomorrow we will have a very important stage with an uphill finish. The team is motivated to do well in this stage," said sports director of Team Katusha Gennady Mikhaylov.
In the general classification after two stages Niki Terpstra from Etixx – Quick Step is still leading. Sergey Lagutin is now 6th at 36 seconds.
Tomorrow it is the third stage – 207 km from Bastogne to Namur with a short but very steep climb at the finish.
