Scott Thwaites repeated yesterday’s fifth place also at the Dwars door Drenthe when the race was decided in a sprint of a big field. Even though the targeted podium result is missing for BORA – ARGON 18 after the Dutch weekend, the 25-years old British rider underlined his excellent classics form. Manuel Belletti (Southeast) won ahead of Barry Markus (LottoNL) and Michael Carbel (Cult).
“The entire team implemented very well our tactics today. Even though we missed a podium result once more, we have to be satisfied with the race. We rode actively and we were present in all key groups. Scott is in excellent form. Together with Jan [Barta] he closed the gap to an early lead group. Unfortunately the riders in that group didn’t work together well so the attack was neutralized. After the last group including Andreas [Schillinger] and Michael [Schwarzmann] was reeled in during the final 3 kilometers, we focused completely on a sprint with Scott. Shane [Archbold] and Andreas did a lead-out for him but he was already in the wind with 500 meters to go. This was too early to sprint to the podium today”, concludes Sport Director Andre Schulze the closing of the Dutch classics weekend.
