Lance Armstrong is not only banned for life from any activity in cycling since he admitted to doping during his seven victories in the Tour de France, but the former king of cycling was also sentenced this Monday to pay $ 10 million (€ 8.8 million) to one of his former sponsors.
The Texan must pay this amount to the SCA Promotions, a Texas company that had granted him a $ 4.5 million bonus for his victories in the Tour between 2001 and 2003 when he ran for the US Postal.
The company had, however, refused to pay the $ 5 million bonus for his victory in 2004. In 2006, former cyclist won a trial and payment of $ 7.5 million (SCA) have won without doping.
Having recognized in 2013 to doping, Lance Armstrong had seen him claim the company $ 12 million in damages. According to the Arbitration Court of Texas, Armstrong has admitted to lying in his first testimony, but did not "expressed regret", which led to the arbitration.
"We are very pleased with this result," SCA's president and founder Bob Hamman said in a statement. "It is hard to describe how much harm Lance Armstrong's web of lies caused SCA but this is a good first start towards repairing that damage."
