Having been the best climber of the Giro in 2014 during his first season withTrek-Segafredo, Julian Arredondo has seen his performance decline since. In 2015, he got no podium results and in 2016 he ended his third year with only 45 days of racing.
The reason for his failures is a crash that injured his hip and has caused problems with his position on the bike. During the offseason, the Colombian finally signed a contract with Nippo-Vini Fantini where he got his breakthrough in 2013. In the Italian-Japanese team, Arredondo hopes to resolve his physical problems.
"I've raced for a long time with my left hip twisted, that took power away from my right leg and caused me pain in my back. Now I'm working seven days a week and between four and six hours a day with the specialists from FK Team in Aulla," Arredondo explained to Gazzetta dello Sport.
"First of all I've got to teach my brain to ride in a straight position. I'm going to race for a year and see how things go. It's good to be in a smaller, more family-like team. At Trek I didn't get much help with my hip problem."
