Arguably one of the most improved riders of the season, Julian Arredondo, was finally seen in the offensive again as he tried to attack from leaders group in the finale of Wednesday’s stage to Santuario de San Miguel de Aralar. Slowly recovering from hip injury which badly hampered his performances throughout summer, the Trek Factory Racing rider hopes to find another opportunities to shine during upcoming tough days in Asturian mountains.
Totally invisible in the opening week of the Vuelta, Arredondo explained the reason of his anonymous performance after he finally went on attack on Wednesday.
“Since Switzerland, nothing has gone as planned. I managed to build proper form this summer, but I crashed in Poland and then again during the first week of the Vuelta. I’m feeling less pain every day and it seems I’m recovering well, but it takes time. I feel pain in my hip every time I try to accelerate, it’s frustrating,” Arredondo said, according to Cyclism’Actu.
Still, relatively pleased with a progress of his recovery, the Giro d’Italia mountains classification winner acknowledges that next opportunities to shine will arrive in the tough final week of the Spanish Grand Tour.
“I feel much better than in first few days, but I’m still not 100 percent. I could follow the best but I knew I wouldn’t be able to contest a stage victory. Fortunately there are still some interesting stages to come..,” the 26-year old Colombian concluded.
