The Critérium International will not be held in 2017. Organizers ASO have announced that the agreement with the city of Porto-Vecchio will come to an end after seven years. It was decided to host the race in the future.
The reason is the declining interest from the peloton in a very busy weekend in March when E3 Harelbeke, Gent-Wevelgem, Volta a Catalunya and Settimana Coppi Bartali also take place. The French stage race was first heldin 1932. The competition has regularly changed location, but until 2009 it was mainly held in the Champagne-Ardennes region. Since 2010, the Critérium International has been held around Porto-Vecchio held on the island of Corsica.
Last year Thibaut Pinot won the race ahead of Pierre Latour and Sam Oomen.
