For the second year in a row, Astana were unable to win the Kazakh road race championships. Instead, it was the Vino4Ever team that made it a clean sweep of the podium with new champion Oleg Zemlyakov, Dmitriy Lukyanov and Stepan Astafyev,
For more than a decade, Astana have completely dominated the Kazakh championships, winning the race on almost every occasion since it was created on the ashes of Liberty Serguros in 2006. However, the team have lost their dominance in recent years.
Last year it was Astana continental rider Ilya Davidenok (who later tester positive while riding as a stagiaire for the WorldTour team) who upset the favourites and this year it was the Vino4Ever team that created the surprise. After Alexey Lutsenko's win in the time trial, there was not a single Astana rider on the podium as the continental team completed the podium.
New champion is Oleg Zemlyakov who cam out on top in the race in Petropavlovsk.
