"Tomorrow will be like the first stage, and the teams who want to take the jersey will go to the front."
Those were the words of Astana's Dario Cataldo after stage one at the Vuelta a España. Organizers planned a spectacular seaside team time trial to open the 70th anniversary of the Spanish Grand Tour, but sand, narrow path ways and sharp turns forced the cancellation of time classification before the race.
Thus all 22 teams on Saturday raced with no recorded time for General Classification, though an order of placement was recorded for the purposes of presenting the first leader's Red Jersey of the 2015 Vuelta a España. Astana Pro Team finished 13th behind American team BMC, and all riders will start Sunday's stage two with the same time as race leader Peter Velits of Slovakia.
