The first WorldTour win for Team Colombia arrived today in the Tour de Pologne. Darwin Atapuma scored an outstanding win in the 6th stage on the uphill finish in Bukowina Tatrzanska after tagging new leader Christophe Riblon (AG2R) with 200 metres to go. It’s the second UCI career win for Atapuma although it is his maiden WorldTour victory.
“When we were at 500 metres from the line, I turned behind and saw no one was coming, and that was the moment I realized I was going to make it. I know this win has a huge importance, not only for me but for the whole team and our project, and makes me even more proud after what happened yesterday: I think we showed we could have won even that stage…,” Atapuma said on the Team Colombia website.
Atapuma did not forget some key contributions to his success at the Tour de Pologne: “I want to dedicate this win to all of my teammates, ‘cause they gave everything they had for me since day 1, and always showed confidence and full commitment – I am so glad I was able to reward them. This is also for our whole team staff, starting with Claudio Corti, our sports director and everyone involved here. And I truly hope to have made a big number of fans happy, in Colombia and all over the World!”
