Jelle Wallays again confirmed his big talent when he won the Belgian one-day race Omloop Het Houtland Lichtervelde. Having no fast sprint, the Belgian knew he had to attack and managed to hold off some of the world's best sprinters to take his second win in a major race.

One year ago Jelle Wallays was finally rewarded for his constant attacking when he won the first stage in the World Ports Classic by holding off some of the best sprinters in the world. Yesterday he repeated that performance when he won the Omloop Het Houtland Lichtervelde.

Known as a race for sprinters, the event was expected to come down to a bunch sprint but Wallays had different plans. He made a perfectly timed attack to come away with one of the biggest wins of his career.

"It was a tough race," he said. "The weather was terrible. I tried several times in the finale. The last attempt was good. I won in the same manner as I did in Isières. I do not have a good burst of speeds so I had no choice."

"Tom Van Asbroeck also makes important points in the context of the Europe Tour," he added about his teammate who won the bunch sprint for 7th. "He will fight to the last race in Putte-Kappelen. Tom Van Asbroeck is really impressive. Personally, I will do the Eurometropole Tour next week and I will definitely try something."
