With the Tour Down under done and dusted, the 2014 WorldTour season is underway. With the Adelaide-centered race a main target for several Australian star riders, they unsurprisingly give their home country a healthy lead in the season's first WorldTour ranking.

Simon Gerrans (Orica-GreenEdge) has collected 114 points in South Australia and leads the individual ranking which looks more or less like the overall classification of the Tour Down Under. André Greipel is the first sprinter in 9th place due to his high placings in the Angaston, Victor Harbor and Adelaide stages.

The only non-Australian in the top-five is Italian Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) with 83 points for his stage win in Stirling, high placings on three other stages and an overall podium spot.

Runaway lead for Aussies in nations ranking

In the nations ranking the Australian dominance is most pronounced: The country's 334 points are more than sixty percent of all points distributed so far, with Italy in second place only being able to show 86 points. The Netherlands have half of that again, while Daryl Impey's consistency throughout the Tour Down Under brought the South African up to 7th in both the Tour Down Under general classification and the WorldTour individual ranking and puts his nation in fourth place.

Australian outfit Orica-GreenEdge also leads the team ranking due to the points of Gerrans and Impey, with Cadel Evans' BMC Racing Team, Richie Porte's and Geraint Thomas' Team Sky and Ulissi's Lampre-Merida trailing some way behind.

However, nothing is decided yet, the season has only just begun. The next WorldTour races will be Paris-Nice from 9th to 16th March and Tirreno-Adriatico from 12th to 18th March, followed by the classics season; after these races the ranking will be more balanced and meaningful.
