Tinkoff-Saxo went into the Canadian WorldTour races with a two-pronged attack. In yesterday's Grand Prix Montreal, the team was never in the mix and only had Michael Rogers in the front group.

Tinkoff-Saxo had hoped that Michael Rogers and Matti Breschel would be in contention in the Canadian WorldTour races but the team leaves Canada empty-handed. After Breschel had been held up behind a crash in Quebec, only Rogers made it into the front group in Montreal.

The Australian was unable to mix it up with the sprinters and so the team came away from the race with a disappointing 22nd place.

“It was almost a textbook race where an early breakaway got their time in the sun out front while the peloton was cruising and controlling. Towards the finale, the pace went up and riders were dropped as a consequence of the nasty climbs. However, Michael managed to stay in the select group of riders but couldn’t keep up with the sprinters,” said sports director Fabrizio Guidi.
