The 5th stage of the Tour of Denmark would take the form of a short 13km evening time trial. Madz Wurtz (ColoQuick) would be the fastest against the clock while Norwegian champ, Edvald Boasson Hagen would take 5th place, even after puncturing.

The out and back course was not at all technical and with very little elevation change it would be all about shear power. Wurtz, starting as the 16th last rider, would set the benchmark for the GC favourites as he completed the 13.6km course in a fast 15’45”.

Earlier on though young South African Nic Dougall posted a credible time of 16’49”. This would see him finish just outside of the top 20 in 24th, a promising result for the 22 year old. After riding strongly all week, Gerald Ciolek’s time of +1’09” was good enough to hold on to the 10th on GC.

Boasson Hagen was absolutely flying until he was hindered by a flat wheel, nevertheless a time just +33″ shy of the win was good enough for 5th on the stage and saw him jump to 7th on GC. With a solid 2nd place ride, Chris Juul-Jensen (Tinkoff-Saxo) moved into the race lead.

Apart from Jacques Janse van Rensburg not being able to start after crashing out during the morning road stage, the rest of our Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung riders got around the course in safety. The team will now focus its attention on tomorrows final road with another stage victory the objective.
