Simon Geschke and Warren Barguil finished in 14th and 27th place at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal. Tim Wellens won the Canadian WorldTour race.
The second out of two Canadian one-day races that form part of the UCI WorldTour took place in tough conditions today. On the hilly parcours around the city of Montréal Belgian Tim Wellens (Lotto Soudal) was the strongest. For Team Giant-Alpecin Simon Geschke was the best finisher in 14th place, as Warren Barguil and Tobias Ludvigsson took 27th and 53rd.
“We focused on Warren and Simon to realize a nice result here,” explained coach Aike Visbeek. “Because of the bad weather the race was fast and difficult from the start. We were represented in the two dangerous breakaways in the first part of the race and the teamwork was good.
“In the finale two groups got away and Warren missed those because he got pushed off the road at the bottom of the final climb. According to our plan Simon waited for the sprint. Warren came back and did the lead-out for Simon, but he came a bit too early to take 14th.”
