Italy has been hit by bad weather in recent weeks. The huge amount of rain may force Giro d'Italia organizers RCS Sport to change the course for the 2015 edition of the Italian grand tour.
The bad weather in Liguria could also affect the 2015 Giro d'Italia. The race is still far away but the recent rain with flooding, mudslides and landslides which has mainly been affecting Levante, could force RCS Sport to change the first stages of the Giro. The stages on May 11 and May 12 which go from Rapallo to Sestri Levante and from Chiavari to La Spezia respectively, are worstly affcted.
This week the organizers will visit the region in order to assess the situation and they will be accompained by local authorities.
"It is clear that we are concerned and focused on the situation," Matteo Rossi from RCS Sport told Secolo XIX. "But the province is doing a very good job and there is enough time to fix the roads, even in areas that are affected the hardest. Of course we cannot waste any time. It is important to solve the problems quickly."
