Jan Bakelants (Ag2r) was one of the strongest in the queen stage of the Eneco Tour and had joined Tim Wellens in what would be the race-winning move until he crashed in a slippery turn on a descent.
"Stupid crash on a bad moment and my good cards to play with were gone," he tweeted after the stage.
Bakelants would rejoin the main group and make a late attack to finish the stage in fourth and move into 10th in the overall standings
