It was another good top 10 result for Bardiani – CSF as sprinter Andrea Piechele was sixth in the final Stage of 22nd Tour de Slovenie.
The last stage of 165.5km ended with a bunch sprint in the city of Novo Mesto. Piechele was able to follow Sky's train in the last 2km and then find the space to sprint in the tricky final kilometer, crossing the finish line in 6th place and not behind stage winner Marko Kump (Adria Mobil).
Manuel Bongiorno finished with the bunch and confirmed his 13th place in the final overall classification.
”Piechele was very good to fight in the finale and then achieve a positive 6th place after a long period of rest," sports director Mirko Rossato said. "Indeed, expect our two leaders Bongiorno and Zardini, the whole team was coming back to racing after more than one month without competiton and one rider (Manfredi) was making the season debut. So we used this event to regain confidence with race pace. I guess we did a good work and now we look ahead to the upcoming Italian Championships where I expect an improvement by the whole squad."
