"Also, fatigue plays an important role, as everybody starts to become tired. I hope to climb well and keep learning and hopefully this results in a good position in the GC.”

On the second rest day lof the Tour de France, Warren Barguil and John Degenkolb (Giant-Alpecin) took stock of the situation and looked ahead to the third week.

“I didn’t sleep too well last night, as I was thinking a lot about yesterday’s incident on the descent of the Col de Manse. Clearly it wasn’t my intention to put anyone at risk, and I feel bad about it," Barguil said.

“I am satisfied about my Tour so far. The level is really high, even higher than I expected initially, and it has exceeded my expectations. It’s too bad that I suffered from my crash on stage 10 for a couple of days, but yesterday I felt good again for the first time, which is a positive sign.

“I hope that in the coming days in the Alps I will feel strong again, which is necessary because the final week is very difficult. Also, fatigue plays an important role, as everybody starts to become tired. I hope to climb well and keep learning and hopefully this results in a good position in the GC.”

“We had a relaxed rest day. We went for a coffee ride, and I enjoyed the time together with my teammates," Degenkolb said.

“So far my Tour has been good but not perfect. Obviously the stage win is still missing, which is disappointing, but we are showing a fighting spirit to reach our goal every day, and we are still confident that the stage win will come.

“I am looking forward to the Champs-Élysées on Sunday, and I hope for good legs there. In the end it’s all about the mental strength and who wants it the most, because everyone is tired after three weeks of Tour de France, and that’s the way to make the difference.”
