Warren Barguil and Simon Geschke sprinted to a top 15 finish at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec. Rigoberto Uran attacked in the final kilometer and won the race solo. 

Attempts took place from the gun as riders were trying to break away. The peloton was content with letting a group of six riders go and the gap increased quickly to reach a maximum of 9’10” at kilometer 31. BMC and Trek Factory worked to keep the lead within reasonable limits.

In the penultimate lap seven other riders bridged the gap including Warren Barguil. Rigoberto Uran (Etixx – Quick Step) attacked under the final km sign and won the race. In the sprint for the second place Braguil took 9th and Simon Geschke took 12th.

After the race coach Aike Visbeek explained: “We worked hard to get Simon and Warren as fresh as possible in the finale. We succeeded but in the finale we spent a bit too much energy.

“The sprint was somewhat chaotic. The 9th and 12th place showed that we have the level and we take that to Sunday’s GP Montréal.“
