Jan Barta continues the podium successes of BORA – ARGON 18 at the Czech Cycling Tour. After the second place in the opening team time trial and the third place of Daniel Schorn yesterday, Jan Barta also finished third at today's queen stage.
After 199 kilometers, the victory went to Leopold König, who won ahead of his Czech national team mate Karel Hnik. With his result, Barta improved to the second place overall and is now only six seconds behind the leader Petr Vakoc (Etixx-QuickStep) ahead of tomorrow's final stage. The 30-year-old Czech has also took over the lead in the points classification.
The final section of the four-day tour leads over 145 kilometers in rather lumpy terrain. The stage will be decided on a finish lap with a short climb, which has to be ridden nine times.
"We wanted to make the race difficult right from the start to be able to attack on the final laps with Jan. Andreas [Schillinger] was in an early lead group to put the other teams under pressure. So, Andreas could help Jan when he attacked with two laps to go and he was able to create a gap. That was a very strong race of the entire team and Jan did a great job. Tomorrow we will try again to attack the leader's jersey since the gap is very small with six seconds only", said Enrico Poitschke, Sport Director of BORA – ARGON 18, after today's stage.
