Cannondale Pro Cycling is ready to attend the third and last Grand Tour of the season, the Vuelta a España, which will start on Saturday, August 24 in Vilanova de Arousa (Galicia) and will finish on September the 15th in Madrid.
As already announced, Ivan Basso will be the leader of the team with the aim to take a prestigious result in the general classification. At his side, Sports Directors Mario Scirea and Dario Mariuzzo, who will lead Cannondale Pro Cycling in Spain, will line-up three experienced long distance riders such as Italians Paolo Longo Borghini and Tiziano Dall'Antonia, as well as Australian Cameron Wurf. For the mountains, Basso will be supported by Polish Maciej Paterski and Colombian Josè Sarmiento. Italian Daniele Ratto, Canadian Guillaume Boivin and Argentinian Lucas Haedo will combine their abilities as long distance riders and sprinters to be competitive also in bunch arrivals and mixed stages.
"The road that took me to the Vuelta was good and positive" said Basso. "I'm optimistic and confident to be able to take an important result. The season, until now, was not good and totally different from what I expected. I intend to release it with a bold performance. I am definitely feeling improved since my return at the beginning of July. In Burgos I found good race legs. I want to aim high and to show that I can again play my cards. There are many strong riders at the start, such as for example Nibali, Valverde, Kreuziger and Rodriguez: my own ambition is to compete with them."
