On Monday, Italian rider Ivan Basso explained he diagnosed with testicular cancer. He decided to leave the Tour de France in order to remove a tumor from his left testicle on Wednesday. According to the Gazzetta della Sport, the former Giro d’italia has undergone a successful surgery.
The Italian medias described that the surgery took place at the Hospital San Raffaele in Milan and was performed by Doctor Francesco Monitors. "The surgery, performed by Professor Francesco Montorsi, director of the Unit of Urology of San Raffaele in Milan, and his team, was successful and the patient, already in good condition, will be released from hospital tomorrow," said the hospital in a statement. "Based on histologic examination, which will be available in the coming days, it will determine whether or not he needs additional care."
After a crash on stage five of the Tour de France, Basso suffered and the pain didn’t abate in the days since, leading to him to get a scan in the Tour de France’s mobile medical unit on Sunday.
