According to roadcycling.co.nz, BikeNZ has confirmed that selection of the New Zealand national team consisting of three riders to line-up at the World Championships road race joined by one rider to contest the individual time trial.
Known from his heartbreaking breakaway attempt brought back just meters before the finish line in this year’s Tour de France, Jack Bauer (Garmin-Sharp) will lead New Zealand’s national team in the upcoming World Championships road race held in Ponferrada on 28th of September. The Garmin-Sharp rider will be joined by young George Bennett (Cannondale) and Greg Henderson (Lotto-Belisol), while in-form Jesse Sergent (Trek Factory Racing) will participate in the individual time trial on the 24th of September.
“Overall it’s a select team of quality professionals who have made themselves available for what is a course which suits a specific rider who can handle a distance,” BikeNZ High Performance Director, Mark Elliott said.
“Like in Glasgow we have riders going there in support of Jack Bauer. I am delighted that Greg Henderson has put his hand up, and he believes he can ride competitively for a good chunk of the race in support of Jack as he did in Glasgow.”
“We expect that George [Bennett] will be ideally suited to this course and also be in contention at the sharp end of the race.”
“Jesse has excellent credentials in the time trial where the course appears to be challenging and more technical than last year,” Elliott concluded.
