Jérôme Baugnies finished tenth in de Gp Wallonie. On a very wet course between Beaufays and finish on the iconic Citadelle de Namur, it was Kévin Van Melsen defending team Wanty-Groupe Gobert's colours in the breakaway.
“On top of the penultimate climb, at 13 kilometres from the line, nine guys attacked. I had wanted to try something before that climb but thought it would happen on the Citadella. Lotto-Soudal had two guys in the first group and them some with me as well. They controlled the race perfectly and when we arrived at the start of the Citadelle climb, I knew it was over. Luckily I didn't crash today because it was hard to stay upright. Tenth is not good but also not bad," Baugnies reacted.
Bjorn Leukemans, Tom Devriendt and Frederik Veuchelen were involved in a large crash at 70 kilometres from the line. Leukemans, on the podium in Namur on three occassions, and Devriendt had to abandon. Veuchelen continued and finished the race, just like Frederik Backaert, Kévin Van Melsen and Tim De Troyer, in 100th and last place.
