For Wanty-Groupe Gobert, Jérôme Baugnies, Francis De Greef, Marco Minnaard, Yannick Eijssen, Jan Ghyselinck, Tim De Troyer, Lander Seynaeve and Kévin Van Melsen lined up for the Volta Limburg Classic. This UCI 1.1  race in the south of the Netherlands ressembles a mini-Amstel Gold Race with its 33 hills and 198 kilometres in total. It became a hard race for the team and only Baugnies and De Greef managed to reach the finish.

"It took over an hour before a group would get to go clear," Baugnies reacts. In 32nd place, two minutes from race winner Stefan Stefan Kueng (BMC Racing Team), he netted the best result for Wanty-Groupe Gobert. 

"In the province of Limburg it's narrow and the roads turn all the time. The weather wasn't great, rain and cold, and then you know it's hard and riders get dropped all the time. When a second group of second riders went on the attack after the lead group we took matters into our hands. Van Melsen and De Greef started working at the front and especially Francis stayed there for a long time."  

Because of the large number of riders getting dropped, the remaining riders faced a problem. 

"The team car was far back because there wasn't a real peloton anymore, only scattered riders. Getting bottles proved to be very difficult today. In the final I got cramps and I wasn't that good anymore. It was really a hard day," Baugnies explains. 

Baugnies left the Volta a Catalunya after three stages already. After some medical checks the reason for his lack of results became evident. 

"Today I felt I was on the up again. The legs felt better and I had more power. Tomorrow I leave for a training camp to work towards my peak form for the French races Tro Bro Léon and the Tour de Finistère in two weeks times and then I work towards Flèche Wallonne, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the GP Frankfurt where I already finished on the podium twice before."
