For the second time in this year's Volta a Portugal, Phil Bauhaus proved his sprinting potential when he won today's stage 6 f the race. However, it was definitely no easy feat as he had to overcome a hard climb and lots of bad luck to double his tally.
Last Thursday Phil Bauhaus showed the world that he is a force to be reckoned with in future bunch sprint when the 20-year-old beat all the best sprinters in the Vlta a Portugal to take the biggest win of his short career. Today he proved that the win was no fluke when he doubled the tally by winning stage 6.
This time Bauhaus had to overcome a tough climb at the midpoint of the race and this could potentially have taken the sting out of his legs. When it all came down to the expected bunch sprint, however, he positioned himself perfect on key rival Davide Vigano’s wheel and had no trouble passing the stage 2 winner to take the win.
During the stage, Bauhaus had to deal with lots of bad luck and this made the win even sweeter.
"Today was much more difficult as I expected," he said. "This victory was very different from the first one and I'm proud of my team who did a great job. I am very happy."
"Today it was really hard for me," he added to Radsport-News. "In the beginning, I had to change my bike twice and 25km from the finish I had another mechanical. My team worked excellently and I am really proud of all of them. They guys have made this win possible for me."
