CyclingQuotes offers you the chance to listen to behind-the-scenes interviews with Riis, Tinkov, star riders Alberto Contador and Nicolas Roche and Saxo Bank CEO Lars Seier Christensen.
One of cycling's major powerhouses got a new owner today when Bjarne Riis announced that he has sold his Team Saxo-Tinkoff to Russian businessman Oleg Tinkov. Tinkov's Tinkoff Credits Systems will become new main sponsor of the team while current main sponsor Saxo Bank will step back into a co-sponsorship role of the team that will be known as Tinkoff-Saxo in the future.
While Riis will no longer be the owner of the team, he will keep his strong ties with the team that he has managed for more than a decade. He has been appointed as team manager on a three-year contract and will keep the responsibility of the sporting aspect of the team.
Both Riis and Tinkov are keen to stress that the ambitions are as lofty as ever, with the clear goal being for the team to become the best in the world. Some of the riders that turn this vision into reality, are Alberto Contador and Nicolas Roche who both express their satisfaction with the new structure and the fact that Riis will have more time to focus on the sporting aspects.
