Michael Boogerd has no reason to fear prosecution from the Belgian Cycling Federation. The file with his doping confession has arried at the headquarters of the International Cycling Federation UCI without having any consequences for the Dutchman.
In early October, it came out that the Belgian Cycling Federation had opened an investigation of Boogerd. Last year the Dutchman admitted that he used doping for a decade during his career. Since Boogerd rode under a Belgian license, the Belgian federation wanted to sanction him for his wrongdoings.
But today reports from the Netherlands suggest that the Boogerd dossier is about to leave Belgium.
"The Belgian Cycling Federation has not taken actions," says Herman Ram, director of the Dutch anti-doping Authority.
"The dossier is now in the hands of the International Cycling Union. I don't kwwo if the UCI will pursue the case."
Boogerd as quite surprised by the action from the Belgian Federation that came one a half year after his confession. He announced that he would find a lawyer and not speak to the federation.
