The Belkin Pro Cycling Team will be able to rely on Paul Martens, Jetse Bol and Juanma Garate again in 2014. The team is glad to announce that the German (two years), the Dutchman and the Spaniard (both one year) have extended their contracts.
Nico Verhoeven is very pleased with Martens’ new contract.
“This year, Paul established himself as one of the best riders in his field. He was really strong in the hilly stage races. On WorldTour-level Paul, he has also shown that he is someone to be reckoned with in the one-day races.”
Martens says his successes at the Belkin Pro Cycling Team are thanks to the team’s good and professional atmosphere.
“In order to perform I need to feel well. That’s the case with this team, and I can develop myself further here. I’ve had a good season and hope to continue my good run of form. I hope to win more races in the next two years.”
Nico Verhoeven is very happy with the work 24-year old Jetse Bol has done for the team the last two years.
"In the shadow of the team’s leaders, Jetse did a great job the last two years. He clearly made progress," said Sports Director Nico Verhoeven of the 24-year-old Dutchman. "We, and his teammates as well, are very satisfied with his work and the way he races. In the spring classics and in August in Norway, he rode at a very high level.”
“Jetse is a strong domestique in the classics and in other difficult one-day races, but he also stands his ground in stage races and in the sprint train. Jetse can finish a race off himself, as well. He’s still young and developing and we expect that he will be of value for the team again next year.”
Bol is proud to be racing in the Belkin Pro Cycling Team shirt for another year.
"I'm super happy. I really wanted to stay. I absolutely didn’t see any reason to leave. I really like being part of this team,” Bol explained. “I got better as a rider this year and hope to continue developing. I like the Flemish classics the most. This year, I was able to work well in those races, and I want to keep improving myself in that area.”
Verhoeven is pleased that the experienced Garate will stay with Belkin.
“In the Grand Tours and major stage races, Juanma is a real captain. He hasn’t been at the front of many races this year, but behind the scenes we know exactly how important he is. "
