Having been on the attack in most of the stages, Maxim Belkov was again in the break in the final mountain stage of the Tour of Austria. The Russian now just needs to finish the race to win the mountains jersey.
Today the 6th stage of the Tour of Austria took place – 182,6 km from Alpendorf to Villach-Dobratsch with 3 climbs, including the final summit.
Team Katusha’s rider Maxim Belkov again went in the break. Along with ten other riders he was riding in the front in the tough stage to Dobratsch. Belkov scored valuable points for the Mountains Classification in the stage with more than 3500 altitude meters. With just a time trial and a flat stage to go, Maxim Belkov is sure of the overall mountains classification. He just needs to finish the race.
"This is important for us. In every race we start we want to obtain a result. Here in the Tour of Austria from the beginning I was able to get the lead in the mountain classification, so it was pretty nice objective to try to win this jersey. Now I am happy with this polka dot jersey and hope everything be fine till the final stage," said Maxim Belkov.
The victory atop of Dobratsch (1741 m) was for one of the eleven riders in the break, Russian Evgeni Petrov (Tinkoff-Saxo). Dayer Quintana (Movistar) finished second at 24 seconds and yellow jersey Peter Kennaugh (Sky) 3rd at 36 seconds. Best Katusha performer was Alberto Losada, who finished 24th, 5.24 behind the stage winner.
Tomorrow's stage is a 24,1 kilometer time trail in Poldersdorf.
