Southeast delivered a great performance in the Dutch Dwars Door Drenthe. The silver jerseys were everywhere and animated the race from start to finish befor Manuel Belletti sprinted to the win.
The Dutch race was animated by a first breakaway of ten riders, including Giorgio Cecchinel, which was caught after 135km of racing. The pace of the main group created a natural selection of the best and twenty riders emerging, including Mauro Finetto, Simone Ponzi and Eugert Zhupa from Southeast. At this point, everything suggested that it would be of decisive action, but the group caught them in the finale. All was decided in the sprint which was won by a strong Manuel Belletti who took his second win of the season and so allows the Tuscan team to repeat Simone Ponzi's success of last year.
"It's a beautiful day for us. Too bad only for Elia Favilli who crashed and injured his elbow, I hope he will be fit for next Thursday's GP Nobili Rubinetterie," explains sports director Serge Parsani. "Today the team was very motivated, they were protagonists from the beginning to the end and it reflects the team spirit that has been there since the start of the season.. We support those who can win. I thought the group of twenty with Finetto, Ponzi and Zhupa would stay away but they were caught. What a beautiful performance by Manuel Belletti! A big sprint! . And so we repeated the 2014 success of Ponzi. We are very happy."
"Everything went well today," explains Manuel Belletti. "We started with a breakaway with Cecchinel. Then the group with Finetto, Ponzi and Zhupa. We thought they would stay away and we were very happy and serene. But the group did not stop and we got back in the finale. There I took the train of Cult Energy. I started a little early, but I felt good. I had already noticed that yesterday. The defeat was heavy for me (he was 6th in the Ronde van Drenthe,ed.). Today I took my revenge. This victory has a special flavor because I realize that I have never experienced such a good early season. I realize that I feel very well in this team and with my teammates. I'm really happy."
The next races for Manuel Belletti are GP Nobili Rubinetterie and Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali.
