Today, the RCS Sport has announced that they have found a new general manager. Paolo Bellino has been appointed as general manager in order to reinforce the senior management team. RCS Sport is the organiser of races such as Giro d’Italia, Milan Sanremo, Il Lombardia and Tirreno-Adriatico.
Bellino is 43 years old and from Turin. He has a degree in International Political Sciences, forged a career at the top level of the 400 metres distance. He has some experience in managing international sport events. He joins RCS Sport from a role as General Secretary in the Italian Track and Field Federation.
Before he became secretary, he was Director for Organizing World Master Games in Turin in 2013. He has also been Operations Consultant for the IOC, and has held several different roles in the Organising Committee of the XX Winter Olympic Games in Turin in 2006.
Bellino will succeed the sacked Chief Operating Officer Michele Acquarone. Acquarone is accused of misappropriation of 13 million dollars from RCS Sport. Michele Acquarone has later said that he is not under any investigation and can’t see a reason why he should be.
"I'm not under investigation but I can't see a single reason why I should be."
"I've never taken one Euro more than my salary. That'll be the most difficult thing to convince people. I was in the headlines, on the BBC and in the Washington Post. I hope I'll have the same headlines when I'm cleared. I want to prove my dignity to be 100% restored."
