Cesare Benedetti made a great impression in the final stage of the Tour of Denmark when he was one of the driving forces in turning the race upside down. Unfortunately, he lacked the power in the final sprint and had to settle for 8th.
Nicola Boem (Bardiani – CSF) was able to prevail in the final stage of the Tour of Denmark in a sprint by a lead group of 14 riders. The exciting 175-kilometer stage from Kalundborg to Frederiksberg was dominated by the fight for the tour victory. This went, surprisingly enough, to Michael Valgren Andersen (Tinkoff-Saxo), who came in ahead of Lars Ytting Bak (Lotto Belisol) and Manuele Boaro (Tinkoff-Saxo), who already looked like a sure winner after yesterday’s time trial. Cesare Benedetti turned in a strong performance. The Italian riding for Team NetApp-Endura attained a good eighth place. Daniel Schorn ended the tour with a solid 20th place in the overall rankings.
“The final stage today was once again really aggressive and was dominated by strong winds. As a result, the race was very high-speed, right from the start. At the halfway point, when the race had already become very difficult, a dangerous group of riders who were already ahead in the overall rankings formed. But we were also part of this, with Cesare. He did a fantastic job and gave it everything he had. We did our very best during this tour,” was Andre Schulze’s summary of the final stage of the Tour of Denmark.
The program of tours for Team NetApp-Endura continues in the European far north next week as well. In the Arctic Tour of Norway, which begins on Wednesday, not only will Daniel Schorn attempt to build on his success in Denmark, but Jan Barta, who most recently came in third in the Tour de France time trials, will be back in the race.
