Sam Bennett had a great start to the 2015 season, with a victory in a final Tour of Qatar stage into Doha. Even though his Bora-Argon 18 team couldn't be equally pleased with his last performances at the Tirreno-Adriatico, they decided to provide their young sprinter with a chance to test himself in the upcoming Milano-Sanremo.
As final preparations towards his la Primavera debut, Bennett has inspected the trickiest last 40 kilometers of this year's route and confessed that negotiating iconic little climbs gave him goose bumps.
“We rode the last 40 kilometres today and it gave me goose bumps,” Bennett told in an interview for Stickybottle.
“It was amazing descending the Poggio, it’s famous in cycling and I’ve so often seen on tele.”
The 24-year old Irishman also wisely admitted that there is no way to find out how his organism would react after covering a monstrual distance of nearly 300 kilometers, and so Bora-Argon will evaluate the situation on Sunday before deciding whom to support in the finale.
“It’ll be amazing to ride the race but I know I have to be realistic as well because I’ve never raced this distance. Is there even another race this distance?” he laughed.
