Sam Bennett also convinced in the bunch sprint at the demanding second stage of the 36th Tour of Bavaria. The course from Waldsassen to Selb went over 180 kilometers on a steady hilly profile. After winning yesterday's opening stage and riding in the yellow jersey today, Bennett sprinted to fourth place and missed another place on the podium by a narrow margin.
John Degenkolb (Giant-Alpecin) won ahead of Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) and Enrique Sanz (Movistar). In the overall classification Bennett is now in third place with a gap of 4 seconds to the new leader Degenkolb. Having the general classification in mind, Jan Barta didn’t loose any time also on the second day.
"Yesterday we were overjoyed. Today, we unfortunately didn’t make it to the podium. The team did a great job all day and Sam has felt very good. Even if we do not stand on the podium today, we are still keeping up with the leaders. Tomorrow, the finish lap is once again a little more difficult than it was today and with 206 kilometers the stage is also quite long. Certainly, there will be many attacks and so we have to be highly concentrated", Sports Director Enrico Poitschke concludes the day to the Bora-Argon website.
