Carlos Betancur has started his season very well by winning the Tour du Haut Var and being the first ever Colombian winner of Paris-Nice. But then it went quite wrong for the young rider. He had to leave both Volta a Catalunya and Vuelta al Pais Vasco.

According to Betancur himself he had to leave the races due to a knee injury. In his return in Amstel Gold Race he finished 65th, which is a very anonymous for the strong Colombian. In Wednesdays Fleche Wallone he moved up 29 places to finish 36th.

In an interview with Cyclingnews, Betancur says he hopes to finish even better in Liege-Bastogne-Liege tomorrow.

“Amstel wasn’t so good, but in Flèche was a little better and let’s hope that on Sunday it’s much better,” Betancur told Cyclingnews.

Betancur stated that he, when he is in a good shape, is able to finish on the high spots in such kind of races.

“Liège is a very long race, and a race like that is so hard it has no secrets, normally when I’m going well, I can get a good result in that kind of event.”
