It was a big day for OFM team in the decisive time trial of the Volta a Portugal yesterday as the team completely dominated the stage by taking a 1-2 with Spaniards Alejandro Marque and Gustavo Cesar Veloso and put 3 riders into the top 5.
Race leader Rui Sousa (Efapel) fought as best he could on the flat course but had no chance against his more powerful riders, thus dropping to 3rd as Marque and Veloso are now set to make it a 1-2 on GC with just one flat stage still remaining.
Marque snatched the yellow jersey after the time trial, enjoying a 4-second lead over Veloso. Rui Sousa fell to third place, 50 seconds off the new race leader.
"We are friends and always train together,” Marque explained after the time trial when speaking to the OFM website. “My victories are Gustavo’s and his victories are also mine. This victory belongs to the whole team, who worked hard, including colleagues who had to leave," said the new yellow jersey.
The Volta a Portugal ends today with the tenth stage, 130 kilometres with start and finish in Viseu.
