While the 2013 season is still underway, details are beginning to surface with regards to the eighth edition of the Tour de San Luis scheduled for January 2014. Reportedly the field will include a string of renowned riders such as Giro d’Italia winner Vincenzo Nibali (Astana), green jersey conqueror in the Tour de France Peter Sagan (Cannondale) and Nairo Quintana (Movistar), best young rider and KOM in this year’s French grand tour, according to race organisers.
The UCI 2.1 event will also witness the maiden participation of Garmin-Sharp, while BMC Racing Team, Lampre-Merida and Orica Green-EDGE are also confirmed starters in the seven-stage race.
Interestingly, the 2014 Tour de San Luis will take place from January 19-26, which clashes with the dates of the Santos Tour Down Under, the first WorldTour event of the season.
With such illustrious names already confirmed for the Argentinean event and given the collision of race dates, question marks are bound to resurface regarding the prominence of the Australian event to the UCI.
Stages 2, 4 and 6 in the 2014 edition of the Tour de San Luis are summit finishes, while stage 5 is an individual time trial.
