Gaetan Bille (Verandas Willems) has been one of the best continental riders in 2015 and with a prologue, he was one of the favourites for the Tour de l'Eurometropole. After a bad start to the race, he bounced back with a good ride in the break in today's penultimate stage.
"I followed the two riders from Vastgoedservice Golden Palace, Alphonse Vermote and Dennis Coenen. When we saw that the gap was not big we bridged the gap," he told Directvelo.
"We never had much of a gap. We got along well, but the peloton controlled everything. The wind was completely against us in the final seven kilometers. It was impossible to stay away today.
"Personally, I wanted to test the legs before Binche-Chimay-Binche. I was sick last week. I am glad to see that the sensations come back every day. Anyway, my GC is over."
