Swiss cycling has been hit by another major shock. After the WorldTour team IAM announced its demise, the pro continental Roth team will be the second professional Swiss team to disappear. According to a press release, the reason is "unforeseen financial liabilities from the 2015 season 2015." Moreover, it is not able to attract a co-sponsor.
However, the team will continue with as a development squad. The very successful junior team from the 2016 season will be continued as an Under 23 Development Team next year as a commitment to Swiss cycling. Talented Swiss riders, such as the junior world champion and world record holder Stefan Bissegger and Robin Froidevaux will represent the colors of the team. “It is important to u, to further contribute to the Swiss cycling”, team owner Stefan Blaser said.
“Without financial security it is impossible for us to continue the team on this level for another season”, Blaser said. “We regret this decision very much, as we have been in negotiation with potential new partners shortly before. But unfortunately these didn’t come out the way we wished for.”
“We will look for ways to offer solutions for each rider and employee.”
The Roth Group remains sponsor of the junior team.
