The BMC Racing Team saw several riders knocked out of contention by crashes Wednesday at La Flèche Wallonne, including 2011 winner Philippe Gilbert and 2006 runner-up Samuel Sánchez.

Gilbert was involved in a pile-up of a half-dozen riders with about 50 kilometers left in the 205.5-kilometer race. Amael Moinard suffered a cut on his knee in a separate crash and Sánchez and teammate Danilo Wyss were also involved in a crash with about 12 km to go. 

BMC Racing Team Chief Medical Officer Dr. Max Testa said none of the riders broke anything.

"Overall, they are doing fine," he said. "Definitely the one who is the most beat up is Philippe. He lost a lot of skin today, has a contusion of the right elbow and his back is a little sore. We will need to re-evaluate him tomorrow and see how much he is going to recover overnight. Overall, I think he will be fine for Liège-Bastonge-Liège on Sunday."

Dylan Teuns, competing in the race for the first time, was the BMC Racing Team's best finisher in 13th place as Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) won for the second straight year. Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx-Quick Step) was runner-up and Michael Albasini (ORICA-GreenEDGE) finished third.
