BMC Racing Team have announced their roster roster for the upcoming classic Gent-Wevelgem. It includes former winner Thor Hushovd. But also last year's third-place finisher Greg Van Avermaet will be a part of the strong classics roster.
Greg Van Avermaet will be the captain of the team. The Belgian was third last year as he finished second in the bunch sprint after Borut Bozic. Peter Sagan took a solo win
“He showed good condition in Milan-San Remo especially and is in top shape," Piva said. "Thor Hushovd is a former winner (2006) and is a rider I also expect to have in the final." Joining them are a pair of past top 10 finishers – Daniel Oss (fifth in 2010) and Manuel Quinziato (9th in 2009) – and Dubai Tour winner Taylor Phinney, who was held out of Milan-San Remo due to illness."
Taylor Phinney has been using some days to recover and he hopes to perform well..
"My body has taken some days to recover," Phinney said. "I go in hoping to get a good, long, one-day race in my legs before my most important two weekends of the season, Flanders and Roubaix."
Van Avermaet said he is in the midst of a series of races that suit him well.
"Knowing the parcours and the climbs is important, as well as getting in good position – then it's all about the legs," he said. "The Kemmelberg and the wind will be key points. I am hoping for a hard race so a small group can go to the finish."
