Following his excellent performances in the Giro d'Italia and the Criterium du Dauphiné, Wilco Kelderman is now one of the hottest topics on the transfer market. Different media report that Orica-GreenEDGE, Sky and BMC have all shown interest in the talented Dutchman that also considers staying at his current Belkin team.
In his first two years at the professional level, Wilco Kelderman has given signs of his great potential but this year he has taken a massive step forward. A few weeks ago he finished seventh in the Giro d'Italia - his first grand tour as a team leader - and these days he is fighting against Chris Froome and Alberto Contador in the Criterium du Dauphiné, sitting in third overall behind the two grand tour stars.
Unsurprisingly, his results have attracted the interest of several top teams. AD reports that Sky and BMC have both shown interest in the talented Dutchman while Sydney Morning Herald reports that Orica-GreenEDGE would be keen to sign him as they continue their quest to have more of an impact on GCs in stage races.
His manager Rick van Dongen admits that there is plenty of interest but also makes it clear that he may stay at his current Belkin team.
'We are now in talks with Belkin to see if they have an acceptable offer," he told AD. "And it needs to be competitive because Wilco is currently one of the most sought after riders in the peloton. He has to do take the right decision for his future.
"Kelderman has the potential ride in the Grand Tours. Let's be clear: Wilco Kelderman is not a rider who is hopping for the money from team to team. It is also important that the atmosphere and organization are good and he has had a good time at Belkin."
"After my seventh place in the Giro and with my good performance here in the Dauphiné, I am not in a hurry to make a decision," Kelderman told De Telegraaf. "I won't set a deadline for myself."
