Next week Floris Gerts will make his WorldTour debut at the Tour Down Under. He is set to support defending champion Rohan Dennis and Richie Porte at BMC. “I look forward to seeing what awaits me," he says.
"I had some trouble with jet lag because I have never traveled so far," Gerts tells Velo-Club.net. "But I feel pretty good. We have been here for a while now and I've adapted myself in a good way. I find it difficult to talk about my form, because I have no idea when it comes to racing. I will try to at least do my best on a daily basis. The Tour Down Under is my debut in the World Tour, but I do not feel too much stress. I feel liberated and have less pressure because I am part of the team. As a stagiaire, I had to prove myself to get a spot in the team, but that's no longer the case. I will of course give everything.”
After the Tour Down Under, Gerts will remain in Australia for the Cadel Evans Ocean Road Race, but first it is all about his WorldTour debut. "I will try to support Rohan and Richie as much as possible and look forward to that role. However, if one asks me to join a breakaway, I will of course do it with great pleasure. I'm just going to do my best to support the team. I can get bottles and keep the leaders out the wind, things like that. I hope I can fill my role in the best possible way.”
