The first Hour Record attempt of 2015 has been met with great anticipation, as Jack Bobridge will take to the track in Australia tonight to try and break Austrian Matthias Brandle’s record of 51.852 kilometres.
"The hour record is one of the most famous in cycling history, some great riders have broken it, so it's a big goal of mine," Bobridge said to SBS Cycling.
Bobridge rode the Tour Down Under recently, where he captured the mountains Jersey and won stage one and wore the leaders jersey for a few days. Many wondered if the race would be detrimental but Bobridge says it has done him the world of good.
"My body's responding really well after the Tour Down Under, which is a great sign for me leading into Saturday.”
"I think I'm right to go."
He is making his attempt at an indoor velodrome, and he has outlined what he hopes the ideal conditions are for his attempt at the record.
"Ideal conditions will be anything from 25 to 30 degrees inside the velodrome, but the air pressure will be the main thing," Bobridge said.
"Anything under 1000 (hectopascals) is great, but the higher you get above that mark the heavier the atmosphere gets and the slower the track is."
"The long-range forecast looks pretty good, but we'll just have to wait and see."
Bobridge will be under pressure, as two more super time trialists, Tour Down Under winner Rohan Dennis and World TT champ Bradley Wiggins are due to make attempts later this year, with Dennis’ attempt coming next week.
