After a rehabilitation process of several months Kris Boeckmans will get back in competition this Friday. At the Handzame Classic the Belgian rider will make his comeback after his life-threatening crash in the Vuelta six and a half months ago.
Boeckmans crashed heavily on the eighth stage of the Vuelta a Espana and was put into an induced coma for two weeks. He suffered severe facial trauma, three broken ribs and bleeding on the lung.
For a long time, it was uncertain whether he would ever return to professional cycling but his recovery process has been remarkably fast. At the start of the year, his goal was to return to racing in June but he will already be back on Friday.
