The new Dutch Team Roompot hopes to have Michael Boogerd as one of its team leaders in 2015. However, the former Dutch rider still has no license to work in his position. The reason is an investigation that is carried out by the Belgian federation after Boogerd confessed to having used doping during his career.
In March 2013, 42-year-old Michael Boogerd admitted that he had used banned substances during his career. As he rode under a Belgian license, the Belgian federation opened an investigation.
Last month it was reported that Boogerd's file had been sent to the International Cycling Union, UCI, but that is not correct. The file is still in Brussels, but there is little progress in the case. Boogerd is frustrated.
"I am sent from pillar to post. And that has been the case for one and a half year," Boogerd told NOS. "If they hand me a suspension, I will go to the court."
"I have done everything to get my punishment," said Boogerd who risks a suspension. "But things only started to progress from the moment I wanted to be a team leader. That won't work in a civilian court."
Boogerd has no license to work in his new position, but the former rider has no reason to panic. If Boogerd is punished by the Belgian cycling federation, he will get a temporary license from the Ducth Federation.
