In his first year at Astana, Lars Boom will focus on the spring classics, mainly Paris-Roubaix, and the Tour de France which starts in his home country.
After 11 seasons with the same structure - Rabobank Continental, the Rabobank WorldTour team and Belkin - the Lars Boom begins a new part of his career with Vincenzo Nibali's Astana team. He expects to accompany the Italian at the 2015 Tour de France which has the special feature of starting with a 14km time trial in Utrecht. The goal is two-fold: to support Nibali in his quest to defend his title and to win a stage like he did in 2014 when he won the stage to Arenberg where Nibali laid the foundations for his victory.
But for now, he is focused on the classics where he will be leader of Astana and where he will chase the great result that he has been unable to obtain so far. Biciciclismo reports that his schedule is: Tour Down Under, Dubai Tour, Tour of Qatar, Strade Bianche, Paris-Nice, Milan-San Remo, Dwars door Vlaanderen, E3 Harelbeke, Gent-Wevelgem, Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix.
His performance in Roubaix was 6th in 2012, 12th in 2011 and 14th in 2013. He was 11th in the 2014 Tour of Flanders and 5th in the E3 Prijs Vlaanderen and 9th in Gent-Wevelgem in 2011. This year, however, an injury set him back and he could only manage 37th in Roubaix and 108th in Tour of Flanders.
In 2014, he won a stage and was second in the Eneco Tour, just seven seconds behind Tim Wellens after he won the race in 2012.
