For the second year in a row, Corné van Kessel has won the Centrumcross Surhuisterveen. The Telenet-Fidea rider beat Lars Boom after a battle in the final laps. Lars van der Haar was third.
Lars Boom had a good start. The new LottoNL-Jumbo rider split the group in the heavy mud secions. Corné van Kessel and Lars van der Haar were the chasers, but suddenly they found themselves in the lead when Boom had a mechanical. That cost the former world champion much time and he had to try to close the gap.
Boom chased hard behind the two leaders fromTelenet-Fidea. First he passed Van der Haar and then started to get closer to Van Kessel. Just after the midpoint, the LottoNL-Jumbo rider was back in the lead. With three laps to go, he even attackd but Van Kessel latched onto his wheel.
In the penultimate lap, the decision was made. In a technical section Van Kessel rode away, but he rode so hard that he lost control of his bike in a curve. Boom took advantage and at the start of the final lap, he was six seconds ahead. However, two costly errors allowed Van Kessel to pass him and arrive solo at the finish.
