One day before the start of the 102nd Tour de France, Lars Boom looks forward to the time trial in Utrecht. The rider of Astana enjoyed the team presentation. "That was very special to experience," he told NOS.
While everyone looks at Tom Dumoulin, the name of Boom as a favorite is also mentioned occasionally among the Dutchmen. He has a different opinion though. "I have never labeled myself as a favorite and will not do so now. I think that a place in the top ten would be very nice."
Until a few years ago the course was perfect for the former U23 world champion, but the years have affected his explosiveness. "It is too bad that my time trialling skills have become poorer. I have become less explosibe after I stopped riding cyclo-cross."
After his great victory last year Boom looks to the cobbled stage to Cambrai. "It will again be such a beautiful day, but we'll have to see how the stage goes." By this he refers to his team leader Vincenzo Nibali whom he must support. "If he punctures, I will have to wait for him, but I hope we can sit in the front together and gain time on the rest."
